Education in Bible Times

From childhood and on through adulthood, we are constantly learning. Our learning shapes our thoughts and actions. Vital to our relationship with God as His people is having an educational text to study, teachers devoted to that sacred text, and a commitment to teach successive generations. Through God’s educational program we see His intent to have a people who would not be influenced by the cultures surrounding them. Instead, they would be a light to the nations, illustrating the blessing of God on a people who know Him and are faithful to walk in His ways. As such, God’s people would demonstrate the great wisdom and creativity that comes from a mind and heart filled with His words. They would be an illustration of the righteousness and justice that comes from loving God and loving one’s neighbor.
